Assembly of States Parties proceeds with General Debate and begins consideration of the 2007 Budget

On the second day of the fifth session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (“the Assembly”), the Assembly continued its general debate.

During the third plenary meeting, held on 24 November, the following States took the floor: Brazil, Liechtenstein, Namibia, Greece, Portugal, Croatia, South Africa, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Norway, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Austria, Mongolia, Comoros, Ghana, Sudan and Yemen.

In addition, the following non-governmental organizations addressed the Assembly: Coalition for the International Criminal Court, Democratic Republic of the Congo National Coalition for the International Criminal Court, Parliamentarians for Global Action, Darfur Consortium, Human Rights Watch, International Criminal Bar, International Federation for Human Rights, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.

Following the general debate, the Assembly began its consideration of the 2007 budget and was addressed by the Registrar of the Court, Mr. Bruno Cathala, and by the Rapporteur of the Committee on Budget and Finance, Mr. Peter Lovell.

The next plenary session of the Assembly is scheduled for 30 November.
