Assembly of States Parties concludes the first resumption of its seventh session

The first resumption of the seventh session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome
Statute of the International Criminal Court (“the Assembly”) concluded its work on 22 January 2009 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Vice-President of the Assembly, H.E. Mr. Zachary D. Muburi-Muita, Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations, closed the session.

At the 10th meeting, on 22 January 2009, of the seventh resumed session the Assembly elected six members of the Committee on Budget and Finance:

  • Mr. Fawzi Gharaibeh (Jordan)
  • Mr. Masud Husain (Canada)
  • Mr. Shinichi Iida (Japan)
  • Ms. Rossette Nyirinkindi Katungye (Uganda)
  • Ms. Elena Sopková (Slovakia)
  • Mr. Santiago Wins (Uruguay)

The term of office of three years begins to run for each member of the Committee from 21 April 2009.

The Committee on Budget and Finance, which is composed of 12 members, is responsible for the technical examination of any document submitted to the Assembly that contains financial or budgetary implications or any other matter of financial, budgetary or administrative nature, as may be entrusted to it by the Assembly of States Parties. The members of the Committee are experts of recognized standing and experience in financial matters at the international level from States Parties.

The second resumption of the seventh session of the Assembly, scheduled to take place from 9 to 13 February 2009 at United Nations Headquarters, would be devoted mainly to the Special Working Group on the Crime of Aggression. The Special Working Group shall conclude its work on 13 February, approximately twelve months prior to the Review Conference of the Rome Statute, to be held in Kampala (Uganda) in the first semester of 2010.
