President of the Assembly of States Parties to the ICC meets with United Nations Secretary-General during mission to New York

PASP and UNSGThe President of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or the "Court"), Ms. Päivi Kaukoranta, met with Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Monday 8 April 2024. During this meeting, President Kaukoranta conveyed to the Secretary-General her appreciation for the continued engagement and cooperation of the United Nations and discussed the main priorities of the Assembly of States Parties to the ICC, including the strengthening of the Rome Statute system and achieving universal accession to the Rome Statute. Secretary-General Guterres expressed his renewed assurances of his and the United Nations' support for accountability for international crimes and reiterated his firm commitment to cooperating with the Court.

While in New York, the President of the Assembly of States Parties to the ICC will also meet with States Parties from the regional groups represented in the Assembly of States Parties, the Vice-President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, Ambassador Michael Imran Kanu, and will brief the Assembly's New York Working Group on the activities of the Bureau of the Assembly. President Kaukoranta will also hold meetings with Senior Officials of the United Nations as well as with representatives of civil society organizations.

The Assembly of States Parties is the management oversight and legislative body of the International Criminal Court. It is comprised of representatives of States that have ratified or acceded to the Rome Statute. President Päivi Kaukoranta was elected President of the Assembly for a three-year mandate in December 2023.
