ICC - President of the Assembly of States Parties visits The Hague

The President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Ambassador Christian Wenaweser, is currently paying a last visit to the Court in his capacity as the President of the Assembly in order to hold meetings with the Court officials, as well as diplomatic community in The Hague.

President Wenaweser will conclude his visit with a press conference on Friday, 21 October 2011, from 11:30 to 12:15 hours at the International Criminal Court (Press Briefing Room), located at Maanweg 174, The Hague. He will refer to, inter alia, the process for election of the next Prosecutor, the election of six new judges, non-cooperation and expanding the membership of the Court.

Ambassador Christian Wenaweser, President of the Assembly of States Parties

Ambassador Christian Wenaweser has served as the Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein to the United Nations in New York since 2002. He is also the current President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). From 2004 to 2009, he served as Chairman of the Special Working Group on the Crime of Aggression. Other previously held functions include: Vice-President of the 61^st session of the UN General Assembly (2006-2007), Vice-Chair of the Open-Ended Working Group on Security Council Reform (2004-2005), Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee on the Scope of Legal Protection under the 1994 Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel (2003-2005), Chairman of the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee (2002). Previously, Mr. Wenaweser worked as Counselor and Deputy Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein to the UN and as diplomatic officer in the Office for Foreign Affairs in Liechtenstein. Mr. Wenaweser studied literature, languages, history and philosophy at Zurich University and diplomacy at the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva.
