Germany contributed a sizable amount of financial resources to the core-activities of the Special Court for Sierra Leone. From 2002 to 2010 the total amount of 7.3 million Euro was allocated to the Special Court for Sierra Leone to help safeguard its functional capability. The Court was the first that filed proceedings against an acting head of state of an African country for war crimes. The conviction of Charles Taylor by the Court set a milestone in international criminal law.
