The President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) H.E. Mr. Sidiki Kaba welcomes the decision by South Africa to revoke with immediate effect of the instrument of withdrawal from the Rome Statute deposited by the Government of South Africa with the Secretary-General of the United Nations on 19 October 2016.
On 7 March 2017, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of South Africa notified this decision by note verbale to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as depositary of the Treaty.[1]
The President of the Assembly of States Parties welcomes this important decision made by the Government of South Africa which signals its renewed commitment to the principles and values upheld by the Rome Statute.
"South Africa has always played an important role in the fight against injustice and, I am convinced, will continue to do so as a State Party to the Rome Statute," said President Kaba.
