PJI reviewed the draft Yemeni Law on Transitional Justice and provided its comments to the Yemeni Ministers of Human Rights and Legal Affairs. PJI stressed the crucial role of individual criminal responsibility and criminal trials in the transitional justice process, an important issue that was missing in the Draft Law. Taking into consideration the cultural particularities of Yemen, PJI's Position Paper provides various ways to ensure accountability for serious human rights violations. The Position Paper stresses on the importance of referring the grave crimes committed in Yemen to the International Criminal Court (ICC) based in The Hague, Netherlands, on an "ad-hoc basis", i.e. without necessarily ratifying the Rome Statute to become a State Party to the ICC. Moreover, YTJC and PJI suggest involving existing tribal adjudicatory mechanisms in the transitional justice process in Yemen.
In addition, PJI addressed the conference "Justice is the only way to reconciliation and peace" organised by the Yemen Centre for Transitional Justice in Taiz, Yemen on 14-15 June 2012 and collaborated on the resulting list of recommendations and open letter to the President of the Republic of Yemen with respect to the Draft Law on Transitional Justice.
